United for Portland is proud to endorse Kezia Wanner for Portland City Council in District 3.
Kezia is also endorsed by Portland Fire Fighters Association, Portland Police Association, Portland Metro Association of Realtors, Progreso Latino PAC, Chinese Americans United PAC, Future Portland, and many others.
We all agree: Kezia will be a strong leader for the city of Portland.
The Oregonian newspaper also endorsed Kezia. Here's what they had to say:
Wanner, 55, does not have flashy ambitions or breakthrough ideas for how to solve homelessness. But the longtime government leader – she has served as deputy director for Portland Fire and is currently in the city’s Emergency Management division – brings enthusiasm for a critical area that few others expressed: “Budget,” she said in our endorsement interview, “is near and dear to my heart.”
As wonky as that might sound, Portlanders should be relieved to hear someone say that. Mayor Ted Wheeler has already put leaders on notice that they will face very tough financial decisions ahead, and the new City Council will have to hit the ground running to pass a budget for the year beginning July 1. Wanner brings the operational expertise and the experience of working in the city’s budget office through the 2008 recession and its recovery.
In addition to providing financial stewardship, Wanner said she would press the City Council as a whole to develop a plan of the economic and housing strategy the city will pursue.
